This safari takes you from the tropical forests of Kibale to the Savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It gives you a full experience of primates in Kibale and wildlife in Queen Elizabeth, both on land and in water. Below is the itinerary for this 5-day safari.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will drive to Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda. The journey takes about 6 to 7 hours with a stop for lunch along the way. A driver guide will lead the trip and share information about the country and its attractions. You will arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Wetland Visit
After breakfast, attend a briefing and head into Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking. The forest is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees and other primates. Trekking is not too difficult as the terrain is fairly flat. Spend one hour watching the chimpanzees in their natural habitat before returning to your lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This area is rich in birdlife and also home to primates such as baboons, colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, and vervet monkeys. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Boat Cruise
After an early breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving before noon. Check in at your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake Edward and Lake George. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes along the shores, as well as many bird species. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 4: Game Drive and Crater Lakes Visit
Begin the day with a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains to see antelopes, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks, topis, reedbucks, and predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas. The game drive lasts 2 to 3 hours. Return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the crater lakes in Rubirizi District. These lakes were formed by volcanic activity and are important both for tourism and for local communities. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, check out of your lodge and start the journey back to Entebbe. You will stop for lunch along the way before arriving in the evening for your flight or drop-off at your hotel. This will mark the end of your 5-day safari.
