Kasenyi Plains in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Mweya, sometimes called the Kasenyi Plains, is found in the northeastern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is known for its open savannah landscape filled with antelopes, tree-climbing lions, birds, and more. The food chain here is fascinating, though sometimes not for the faint-hearted, as lions hunt and feed on other animals to survive and prove their place as kings of the jungle.

While visiting Kasenyi Plains, you can also explore nearby places like Lake George to the west and the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. If you go camping in this area, avoid urinating near your tent because lions can pick up the scent. Also, try not to tell scary stories around the campfire that may make others feel uneasy.

Since the plains are close to the Kazinga Channel, you can enjoy a boat cruise in the afternoon. During the cruise, you will see birds, hippos, elephants at the shores, crocodiles, and many other animals.

Life jackets are required before boarding the boat for your safety. The boat is led by an experienced guide whoF will give you information about the animals you see, making your trip more enjoyable. The cruise usually lasts about two hours. As you approach the shore, you may see large elephants playing or bathing in the water coming from Kasenyi to the Kazinga Channel.

Lake George is also nearby, and you can enjoy its beautiful views while spotting lions walking through the plains and birds flying above. Some of the birds you may see include grey crowned cranes, red-throated spurfowls, and yellow-throated longclaws.

Kasenyi Plains is also a great place for photography. You may capture amazing moments such as lions hunting antelopes. After a long day, you can rest in one of the nearby accommodations, which range from budget to luxury. These include Jacana Lodge, Simba Safari Camp, Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp, Ihamba Safari Lodge, Kyambura Tented Camp, and Mweya Hotels, among others.

For exciting wildlife encounters, Kasenyi Plains is a place you should visit.
