List of Queen Elizabeth National Park Gates – Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Uganda. It was established in 1952 and was first called Kazinga National Park.
Later, after Queen Elizabeth II of Britain visited, it was renamed to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park is located in the western rift valley and covers about 1,978 square kilometers. It has several well-placed gates for entry and exit. These include:
Katunguru Gate
Katunguru Gate gives access to many exciting activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park. From here, you can go for game drives to see hippos, mammals, birds, reptiles, and crocodiles. This gate is close to several good lodges on the Mweya Peninsula, one of the most beautiful places in Uganda.
Nearby lodges include Mweya Safari Lodge, a quiet place with many comforts. It offers a relaxing stay in the northern part of the park. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach here from Fort Portal (about 115.5 km), 382 km from Kampala, and around 40 km from Kasese.
Kabatoro Gate
In the northwestern part of the park, Kabatoro Gate is the main entry for tourists visiting the Kabatoro community, Katwe Salt Lake, and Lake Munyanyange. Activities near this gate include cultural visits, bird-watching, visiting the local salt mining site, and game drives.
Crater Gate
If you are coming to Queen Elizabeth National Park from Fort Portal or Mbarara, Crater Gate is the closest gate. It allows tourists to start seeing wildlife before even reaching the main areas of the park.
Ishasha Gate
Ishasha Gate is one of the main entries into the Ishasha sector in the southern part of the park. This area is well known for its tree-climbing lions, as well as buffaloes and antelopes. The gate offers a good chance to see wildlife and enjoy the natural beauty of this part of Uganda.
For a great safari experience, you can use any of these gates when visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park.
