Photography in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Photography in Queen Elizabeth National Park – Queen Elizabeth National Park is a great place for photographers who want to capture beautiful landscapes, many wildlife species, and wide views of the park.

The best time to photograph wildlife is in the morning, between 6:00 am and 10:00 am, when animals are most active. The sunlight during these hours is also perfect for clear shots. Kyambura Gorge is a good spot during this time for photographing chimpanzees and scenery. A permit is required for photography in this area.

Boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel offer great photo opportunities of crocodiles, hippos, and water birds. Booking a private boat gives you more chances to get good shots. The Kasenyi Plains are another good place for wildlife photography, where you can see and photograph lions, buffaloes, Ugandan kobs, leopards, and open Savannah views.

It is best to use a 4×4 safari vehicle with a sliding roof for better wildlife photos. Drones are not allowed in Queen Elizabeth National Park unless you have a permit for research or conservation filming. Recreational drone use is not allowed.

For wide views of the Kazinga Channel and Lake Edward, visit the Mweya Peninsula on a guided nature walk. The park also allows visitors to meet local communities. You can respectfully photograph their dances, homes, and way of life.

The Ishasha Sector is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which are rarely seen and make for excellent wildlife photos. You can also photograph antelopes, buffaloes, and other animals here. A private game drive gives you more time and space for better pictures.

Several lodges in the park are suitable for photographers. Mweya Safari Lodge offers wide views of the Kazinga Channel, especially at dawn and dusk. Ishasha Wilderness Camp, located in the Ishasha Sector, is perfect for photographing the tree-climbing lions. Kyambura Gorge Lodge is close to Kyambura Gorge, and Elephant Plains Lodge is near the Kasenyi Plains, both good spots for wildlife photos.

Always respect wildlife and keep a safe distance when taking photos. Bring a telephoto lens, wide-angle lens, a strong tripod, a DSLR camera, and extra batteries for the best photography experience.
