Katara Lodge – Comfortable Accommodation Near Queen Elizabeth Park

Katara Lodge is located about 16 km from the Katunguru Gate of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It sits along the Great Rift Valley escarpment in the northeastern part of the park, offering wide views of the Savannah, Lake Edward, and the Rwenzori Mountains.

The lodge was built using locally sourced materials, making it eco-friendly. It offers accommodation in 8 spacious cottages with wooden floors and grass-thatched roofs.

Seven of the cottages are for single or double occupancy and have modern features such as en suite bathrooms, bathtubs, hot and cold showers, flush toilets, king-sized beds for single rooms, smaller beds for double rooms, free toiletries, mosquito nets, a table and chair, and private verandas.

The eighth cottage is a family unit with two bedrooms and a living area. It has an en suite bathroom, one double bed in one room, and two beds in the other room. It also has a private sitting area.

The lodge provides several services and facilities, including laundry, a swimming pool, free Wi-Fi, a spacious restaurant, a well-stocked bar, electricity, and free parking.

Katara Lodge is a good starting point for exploring the park. Guests can enjoy game drives across the Kasenyi Plains where they may see animals such as lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and Uganda kobs.

Boat safaris along the Kazinga Channel are also available, either through scheduled trips or private arrangements. These cruises offer views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and other animals.

Chimpanzee trekking is another interesting activity done in the Kyambura Gorge. Tourists can see chimpanzees, which are the closest relatives to humans and share about 98% of our DNA.

The park is also home to over 600 bird species. Some of the birds include the African skimmer, African fish eagle, great white pelican, kingfisher, great blue turaco, swamp flycatcher, white-winged tern, and black bee-eater.

To complete the safari experience, guests can take part in a community tour to nearby villages, where they learn about the local cultures and traditions.

Katara Lodge is a great place for guests to enjoy a safe and comfortable stay during their safari.
