Many tourists only know Entebbe International Airport, but western Uganda also has Mweya Airstrip, sometimes called Mweya Airport. It is located near Queen Elizabeth National Park and is a good stop for tourists visiting Kibale National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and Semuliki National Park.
Most domestic flights in Uganda are handled by Aerolink Uganda and Bar Aviation Uganda. These airlines have scheduled flights from Entebbe or Kajjansi Airfield, usually in the morning at 7:00 am or in the afternoon at 10:05 am or 12:05 pm. Mweya Airstrip is a small airfield at latitude 0.19400 and longitude 29.89410, with the ICAO code HUMW. Other nearby airstrips include Kasese, Savannah, Ishasha, and Lubero airstrips.
Morning flights from Mweya return to Entebbe International Airport around 11:25 am or 4:30 pm. Afternoon flights reach Entebbe by 2:15 pm, and return flights leave Mweya at 2:20 pm and arrive in Entebbe around 4:15 pm. You are advised to book early, as these flights require a minimum of two passengers. They are often available on request if the scheduled flights do not match your plans.
Before your departure, check-in at Entebbe should be done 60 minutes before your flight, while check-in at Mweya should be done 30 minutes before. Please keep time.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is close to the districts of Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi, and Rukungiri. This gives tourists a chance to explore local cultures. You can take part in everyday activities like cooking, cleaning, or milking cows with the local people.
Inside the park, you can also visit the Ishasha Sector, where the famous tree-climbing lions live.
