Crime rate and safety in Queen Elizabeth National Park – Queen Elizabeth National Park is very safe to visit due to the numerous patrols that are done throughout the park, armed rangers, surveillance cameras or drones and military officers who work hand in hand with Uganda Wildlife Authority.
The management of the park uses drones to monitor the entire park from the animal movements, behavior and they are able to detect any strange activity such as poaching. The advanced technology of the drone is able to sense the temperature of a human being from a far and take action.
Armed rangers always escort visitors going for various activities such as walking safaris and game drives for their safety from wildlife and vice versa. Tourists are advised to follow all the park rules at all times by avoiding moving alone at night, going off the designated trails and using recognized tour companies.
Stay in the vehicle during game drives as lions and elephants are dangerous to get close to. Also maintain a safe distance while having the nature walks and avoid moving in the Ishasha sector alone unless you have a guide.
Lodges are safe with tight security and safe locks. Avoid carrying a lot of cash while moving in the nearby towns around the park as you may attract thieves. Pack small portions of money needed for a day and leave the rest in the lodge. Some of the lodges that are secure and comfortable include Mweya Safari Lodge, Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Buffalo Safari Lodge and so forth. They are fenced, their staff is always present and have security guards.
Ensure to have guided drives for your safety and navigation within and outside the park. There are also emergency contacts of tourism police that is toll free and park rangers available on the official website of Queen National Park in case of any suspicious activity.
Be cautious while exposing expensive items like jewelry as you move in the nearby towns of Kasese. Locals can get attracted by your watch, necklace or ring and pickpocket you. You can use ATMs than carrying around big amounts of cash. Do not leave your personal items unattended to either at the lodge and generally in public places like phones and many other things to attract thieves.
Queen Elizabeth is very safe to visit with low crime rate that is petty and can be avoided if caution is taken and all the park rules followed.
